Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions our customer services team receives. This list is constantly updated as we strive to serve our customers as best we can.
jtunes.com is the Jewish World's foremost Music Download store. Customers can purchase and download the latest releases onto their computer from household artists such as Mordechai Ben David (MBD), Avraham Fried, Yaakov Shwekey, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach Z"L, Ohad Moskovitz, Yossi Green, Abie Rotenberg and many many more. Once on their computer, customers can listen to the music or transfer it to their MP3 Players.
Why do we need a Download Store?
The music industry in general has enthusiastically embraced music downloads as a more convieniant, faster and ultimately more efficient way of consumers getting the music they want. Particularly in the Jewish world, where only a fraction of those people who wish to get hold of Jewish Music actually live near a store that stocks it, a Jewish Music Download store obviously has great appeal. Furthermore, with an MP3 Player topping the list of most people's ideal Chanukah present, listening to Jewish Music on the go is an increasing trend.
How do I listen to my downloaded music?
Once you have purchased your music, your computer will bring you to the download section where you elect to start the download. Once the download has completed, the music is available in the library tab (fig. 1).
Where can I listen to my downloaded music?
You can listen to your music on your computer, on the way to work or whilst travelling with an MP3 player and even in your car.
Most definately! All you need to is make sure that when you register, the checkbox for a PlaysForSure device is not checked. If you have already registered and it is checked, just log in to your account, access "My Account Info" and deselect that box. Then all you need to do is point your iTunes software at your My Music folder.
How can I create my own CDs?
Take a look at this article. We'd like to remind you, that as per the terms and conditions you accepted by signing up with us, CDs may only made by you for the purpose of backup and listening to your purchased music in another location. You are not allowed to sell or use these CDs for commercial gain. Indeed, a lot of the music you buy from us will only allow you to burn one CD for this reason.
How can I put the music onto my MP3 Player?
In order to get your music onto your player, you have to:
Create a list of music you want on the player (called a synchronisation, or sync list)
Hit the synchronise button to actually synchronise with the player
The best article that describes the process can be found here.
What's an MP3 Player?
An MP3 Player is really a mobile device that plays digital music files. This includes devices from Apple, Creative Labs, Rio as well as some cell-phones.
Which Players are compatible with jtunes.com?
Any Player that can play WMA (Windows Media Audio) files will work with jtunes.com. For best performance, make sure yours has a PlaysForSure logo on it. You can see an updated list of those devices on http://www.playsforsure.com.
What is Windows Media Player?
Microsoft Windows Media Player (WMP) is a free software music player that comes installed on most computers nowadays. Not only does it play your music on your computer, but is an excellent tool for cataloging and organising your entire music collection. jtunes.com has chosen WMP as the player of choice; most people will access the store through WMP...any music you buy automatically goes into your library.
For more information on WMP, see the WMP homepage at microsoft.com.
Can I add my own CD collection to WMP?
Absolutely! Windows Media Player is great at organising your entire library whether you've bought the music from us or bought the CD. Take a look at this article for a step-by-step guide.
What is Plays For Sure?
Plays For Sure means that any MP3 Player that carries the PlaysForSure Logo has been tested and certified as compatible with music stores using Microsoft's Digital Rights Managment technology.
If your device doesn't have the logo, don't worry as any player that can play WMA (Windows Media Audio) files will work with our store. However, if you are looking to buy a player, we strongly recommend you look for a device with the logo. You can see an updated list of those devices on http://www.playsforsure.com.
Why do I have to use Windows Media Player to view the store?
One of our main goals at jtunes.com is to provide the consumer with the easiest, most straight-forward way of purchasing and enjoying Jewish Music. By using WMP as the way to interact with the store, it allows us to put your purchased music automatically into your library. No more "Where did I download that file to?".
Are you allowed to sell this music?
Absolutely. For every album or track you see on jtunes.com, we have a signed licensing agreement with the rights holder (sometimes the artist and sometimes not).
Can I make copies of the music that I buy to give to friends?
Absolutely not. It is illegal, against all copyright law and strictly against Halacha. The artists in our industry, besides being blessed by an extraordinary gift, are normal people with familes to support. When you buy music from us or the store, the artist gets paid. That's his livelihood. Every time you give or accept pirated music, you are eroding the artist's livelihood. And it makes no difference if you're doing it for Kiruv purposes.
I'm an aspiring composer/artist. Can I sell my music on jtunes.com?
We're soon going to be launching a section just for aspiring artists and composers. Please select the Contact Us link at the top. Make sure you have a demo in a digital format such as WMA, MP3 etc.
Why is there a minimum transaction value?
Every time a customer makes a purchase, jtunes.com are charged for that transaction by numerous suppliers. These costs include credit-card processing costs, live support costs, content-processing and delivery costs etc. By having a minimum transaction value, being the minimum you must put on your card when you pay, ensures that we do not get charged more for your transaction then you pay us.
If you wish to make a purchase for an amount below the minimum transaction value, you are charged that minimum amount. However, the remainder after we have subtracted the amount for your purchase is put in a virtual "E-Wallet" for your use in the future.
What is my E-Wallet and how do I use it?
Your E-Wallet is an online wallet you can use to pay for purchaes from instead of, or in addition to, your credit card.
This is also the place where any spare credit is stored if you wish to purchase music below the minimum transaction value; we take this minimum amount off your card and credit your E-Wallet balance with the difference between your purchase and this minimum amount.
Finally, if you're lucky enough to have been sent a jtunes.com Gift Certificate, you can opt to credit your E-Wallet with the amount on the Gift Certificate.
